Neighbours was axed after the UK’s Channel 5 decided in March not to renew its contract with production company Fremantle to finance and broadcast the series.

In the accompanying interview, Bassingthwaighte admitted that she worried about starring on the series at first, as it clashed with her music ambitions.

The singer was concerned, ‘that I would then be labelled the soapie pop star and I didn’t want that label, even though it’s been very successful for so many’.

Natalie had pop chart success as a vocalist for the popular Australian group Rogue Traders.

The band formed in Melbourne in 2002, with Neighbours star Natalie Bassingthwaighte joining as lead singer two years later.

They went on to have a slew of hits including Voodoo Child, which peaked at number four on the ARIA charts and was also popular in the UK.

The group’s last album, Night of the Living Drums, was released in 2011.

The electro-rockers, who reformed in 2017, had on-stage reunion when they headlined the TV Week Logies Live Site at The Star Gold Coast in June.
