Inside Nick Kyrgios and Chiara Passari’s final doomed holiday

Nick Kyrgios and Chiara Passari spent months travelling in luxury around the U.S, Canada, the UK and the Bahamas before their spectacular break-up – nine months before he was charged with assaulting her.
The lovers had a 16-month relationship that regularly swung between public declarations of love to disdain, beginning during Covid lockdown in June 2020 and ending in a verbal argument in Adelaide’s Playford Hotel in October last year.
Police were called and the pair ended up spending the remainder of their mandatory two-week quarantine period in separate rooms, as a formal investigation ensued. No charges were laid.
On Tuesday, in the midst of a Wimbledon campaign which has taken him all the way to a semifinal, Kyrgios was charged with common assault over an alleged incident Passari, 23, reported to police in December.
The alleged assault occurred in the months prior. Kyrgios, 27, will face ACT Magistrate’s Court on August 2.
While Kyrgios’ 2022 Wimbledon competition has been marred with controversy since the charge was thrust into the spotlight, the former couple attended the same event together last year.

Their year-long, turbulent relationship had a series of ups and downs. Kyrgios and Passari are pictured holidaying in the Bahamas
A series of Instagram stories and photos show their Northern Hemisphere trip between July and September – marvelling at tourist attractions, dancing in New York clubs with friends, and kissing in swimming pools.
Passari accompanied him on his UK trip to compete in Wimbledon, followed by a Bahamian holiday, a brief stint in Toronto in Canada, followed by Florida, Washington, Atlanta, New York for the US Open, and Boston.
Videos, which are still on her Instagram profile, show the pair in Times Square – at one stage, Kyrgios takes his face mask off, points at the famous billboards, and says: ‘Iconic s**t, like this stuff right here. F***ing crazy.’
In another, he tried to make Passari laugh by putting on an accent while enjoying an al-fresco dinner in New York.
Other clips show the ex-lovers dancing with friends in taxis, hotels and clubs, eating seafood and walking through Central Park, intermingled with clips of the World No.40 playing tennis, or stills of tennis courts.

Their adventure abroad ended when they flew back to Australia from Los Angeles in late-September.
Despite spending months seeing the world together, a week confined together in one room at a government-approved medi-hotel was enough to tear the relationship apart.
The dispute began when Ms Passari accused Kyrgios of cheating on her, and shared a photo to Instagram purporting to show him in bed with a ‘naked girl’.
She then shared a photo of a shirtless and sleeping Kyrgios, adding the caption: ‘That girl naked in bed with him isn’t me by the way… Hope that clears it up.’
The social media drama resulted in a ‘verbal argument’ between the pair in their hotel suite, with police eventually forced to separate them into different rooms.
In a series of texts Ms Passari posted on Instagram, the pair agreed to stop living together.

‘Can you get your stuff out my house?’ one message read, while another suggested a shared laptop would have to be returned.
In December, Kyrgios announced he had moved on to a relationship with Sydney blogger Costeen Hatzi, who accompanied him to Wimbledon for the 2022 tournament.
On Wednesday night, the day after he was charged, Kyrgios beat Cristian Garin, from Chile, 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and 13 minutes – blasting his way into his first singles semi-final at a Grand Slam event.
Kyrgios broke his silence on the allegations against him in his post-match press conference on Wednesday night.
‘Obviously, I have a lot of thoughts, a lot of things I want to say, kind of my side about it,’ he said.

‘Obviously, I’ve been advised by my lawyers that I’m unable to say anything at this time.
‘Look, I understand everyone wants to kind of ask about it and all that, but I can’t give you too much on that right now.’
Kyrgios said his looming court date didn’t overly affect him during the match, but he did say that it weighed on his mind.
‘I’m only human,’ he said.
‘Obviously, I read about it and obviously everyone else was asking questions. It was hard.
‘It was hard to kind of just focus on kind of the mission at hand. It was quarter-finals of Wimbledon today. I know deep down that’s what I was prepared for.
‘It didn’t really affect my preparation at all. I knew I stayed true to myself and give my best performance today.’
