Exclusive! Kimora Lee Simmons re-acquired Phat Farm ‘bringing it back where it belongs’

Kimora Lee Simmons has exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com that she has re-acquired Phat Farm, originally founded by her former husband Russell Simmons.
The news comes as her son Kenzo Lee Hounsou (with actor Djimon Hounsou) has just collaborated with Pottery Barn Teen to transform his room into a space that showcases his love for basketball.
Kenzo and Kimora star in the campaign wearing updated replicas of vintage Phat Farm styles. ‘We live in a time of trend cycles where everything re-emerges with a new spin and flair,’ said Kimora. As the saying goes, “What goes around, comes around.” In this case that applies to trends in fashion, but the trends in my life as well.’

In 1998, Kimora’s former husband, music mogul and entrepreneur, Russell Simmons, was at the helm of one of the most influential streetwear brands ever, Phat Farm
‘Reacquiring Phat Farm has been at the top of my to-do list ever since I relaunched Baby Phat a few years ago,’ said Kimora.
‘They were always meant to be a duo. The two hold such a legacy for multiple generations of consumers.’
In 1998, Kimora’s former husband, music mogul and entrepreneur, Russell Simmons, was at the helm of one of the most influential streetwear brands ever, Phat Farm.
Kimora instantly recognized a formidable opportunity to create a women’s label offering sexy, of-the-moment fashions under the umbrella of Phat Fashions.
Baby Phat epitomized 2000s style. The brand was a celebration of the decade’s penchant for extravagance with rhinestone-studded logos, fur trimmings and bubblegum pink.
Unlike any other label, it redefined women’s streetwear, fusing fashion with music and pop culture.
In 2000, Kimora was appointed President and Creative Director of her namesake Baby Phat brand.
In 2004, the Kellwood Company purchased Phat Fashions – then comprised of 4 brands: Phat Fashions, Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons, Baby Phat Girlz and Phat Farm Boys – for $140 million.
In 2006 Kimora was named President of parent company Phat Fashions, solidifying her as the first African American woman to lead a billion dollar brand.
In 2008 the Kellwood Company sold a majority stake in Phat Fashions, after which Kimora successfully divested from Phat Fashions in 2010.

‘Reacquiring Phat Farm has been at the top of my to-do list ever since I relaunched Baby Phat a few years ago,’ said Kimora.
‘What makes me most proud about bringing Phat Farm back where it belongs is the vast history that the brand has,’ revealed the top model.
‘I’m excited to pick up where I left off as CEO and President of both brands but now with ownership and controlling interest.
‘This is a reset for the legacy of Phat Farm that feels triumphant in every way.’
Kimora will of course be bringing her five beautiful children along for the ride.
‘Everything we do is a family business,’ she said.
‘Ming, 22, and Aoki, 19, will be on-hand, but we also have some new additions – my three sons, Kenzo Lee, 13, Gary Lee, 10, and Wolfe Lee, 7.
‘We’ll be sharing our vision for today’s Phat Farm.’

Style is in all of Kimora’s children’s DNA and 13-year-old Kenzo is scoring major points for his cool room with Pottery Barn Teen

‘I needed that balance between basketball and comfort,’ said Kenzo. ‘Everything I pictured about the room came to life and came true’

In theme, his dedicated work space includes a desktop and three locker-style drawers, while books rest upright in a metal wall grid bookcase made for a locker room.
Kenzo’s Baldwin Classic Bed is dressed in NBA sheets, quilt + sham, and pillows featuring teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences.
To tie it all together, colorful basketballs and sneakers are displayed like art on the purple walls, and a glowing neon basketball light adds the perfect amount of sporty edge.
‘Three things I love about my room: It’s comfortable, it’s calm and it’s very color coordinated.’
