The fire broke out at Spy Bar in Newcastle upon Tyne, while people can be seen streaming out of a number of adjoining pubs.
Revellers were enjoying the afternoon sunshine on Saturday afternoon when a canopy by one of the tables went up in flames.
The inferno reportedly reached 14 feet high and could be seen from the second floor of the building behind the bar.
A plume of smoke hung over the area as the crowd spilt onto the street.

Social media commenters were stunned by the footage, with one writing: “Stop recording on your phones and someone call the fire brigade.”
Another added: “And not one person popped their head in the door to grab a fire extinguisher.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: “We can confirm we received a report of a parasol on fire at a premises on Osborne Road in Jesmond on Saturday afternoon around 3:45pm.
“One appliance from Newcastle Central Community Fire Station was on the scene in just six minutes but the fire had already been subdued.
“We ensured the area was safe and left the scene.
“Nobody was injured and we will work with the local authority, and the business concerned, to understand the circumstances around the fire.”
Northumberland Police and the North East Ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
Spy Bar has also been approached for comment.
